Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory
Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the "Laboratory") is located in Dongguan, an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, adjacent to the China Spallation Neutron Source. Construction started on December 22, 2017 and registration was completed in April 2018. It is one of the first batch of provincial laboratories in Guangdong Province and an important scientific research platform participating in the construction of the first start-up area of the Greater Bay Area Comprehensive National Science Center (Songshan Lake Science City). It has four core sections: cutting-edge scientific research, public technology platforms and large scientific facilities, innovative model factories, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cross-Science Center, and is committed to exploring the full-chain innovation model of "cutting-edge basic research → applied basic research → industrial technology research → industrial transformation".

The construction of the four core sectors has been basically completed, and 10 scientific research directions such as metal materials, ceramic materials, and energy materials have been clarified. 25 innovative model factory teams have been introduced, 39 industrialization companies have been registered, and 23 international conferences such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Forum have been held. 124 projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Key R&D Program, Guangdong Province Basic and Applied Basic Major Projects, and Guangdong Province Key R&D Program have been undertaken, with a fiscal budget of approximately 469 million yuan. The scientific research results have been selected as the top ten scientific advances in China in 2019 and the major technological advances in China in 2020.
The transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements has been further promoted, and industrial demonstrations have blossomed in many places. Established joint engineering centers with AECC, Fujian Xiangxin, Luxshare Precision, etc., jointly built joint engineering R&D centers with Aluminum Science and Technology Research Institute of China, Baosteel Central Research Institute, Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd., and jointly built Dongfeng Innovation Center (Research Institute) with Dongfeng Company to jointly overcome industrial technology problems; signed strategic cooperation agreements on achievement transformation with Shaoguan, Yingkou, Panjin, Jinzhou, Hebei Industrial Technology Research Institute, and Kunshan Industrial Technology Research Institute; established a 300 million new material investment fund with Guangdong Science and Technology Mother Fund, and established a 500 million venture capital fund with United Investment Group to support industrial transformation.

In the future, the laboratory will continue to rely on the economic advantages and industrial foundation of Guangdong Province and Dongguan City, take advantage of the advantages of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) in basic research and the construction experience of large scientific facilities, gather outstanding talents and high-quality scientific and technological resources at home and abroad, and build a laboratory with world-class standards.
